Separation of street and house number in DCW

Did you already know?

In DCW, you can automatically split the “Street” field into two fields “Street” and “House number” using the programme.

There is an increasing requirement to output the street and house number fields separately in exchanges with other systems or authorities. The new SEPA format for payments abroad also has two separate fields for this in the payee’s address data, for example. In some countries, e.g. Hungary, tax declarations have already had to be submitted with separate fields for some time.

DCW has therefore been offering the option of separating street and house number on a country-specific basis since 2017. However, we have realised that this has not yet been implemented for many customers and are therefore taking this opportunity to draw attention to this option.

How does that work?

In DCW, many things are controlled via tables. This includes the separation of street and house number. However, you must note that this separation is country-specific. All addresses in a country are converted together. You can also specify for each country where the house number is displayed, before or after the street. In France, for example, the house number is displayed in front of the street, in Germany behind it.

It should also be noted that the changeover runs in the background and, unless you adjust the job control, starts automatically the moment the table entry in A0801 is changed. It is therefore advisable to make the change at a time when as few users as possible are using the system.

What effects does the separation have?

With this question, we must distinguish between the effect on the surface and in the database.

The effect is clearly visible on the surface. The house number is given its own field, which is placed before or after the Street field depending on the setting:

We have chosen the following approach for the database: So that the database does not have to be changed because of this requirement, the existing file structures were left unchanged. In fact, the “Street” field (ASTR) in the address file still contains the street and house number. In addition, however, the two fields Street and House number are saved as independent records in the address extension file (ALEXNU) if the corresponding entries (40 and 50) have been created in table A0802.

Who can help me with the changeover?
