Efficient and Secure Payment Processes at Schluter-Systems (Canada) Inc. – Powered by Portolan Commerce Solutions
Manual payment processes are prone to errors, time-consuming, and often a security risk. Together with our client Schluter Canada, we implemented a solution that automates, secures, and encrypts payments directly from the ERP system. Below, we provide insights into the project.
Schluter Systems Canada: Expertise in Tile Installation
Schluter Systems Canada, based in Montreal, is part of a globally leading company specializing in system solutions for tile installation. The company develops and distributes products for waterproofing, uncoupling, subfloor construction, floor heating, and shower applications. The focus is on practical solutions that ensure durability, functionality, and efficiency in installation.
From Payment Run to Bank – Direct, Encrypted, and Automated
As part of the project, transfer data is generated directly during the payment run and transmitted to the bank in encrypted form without intermediate storage or manual intervention – fully compliant with the requirements of the Canadian Payments Association (CPA) and the security standards of Banque Nationale. Bank return files are also received automatically and in encrypted form.
All communication takes place via the IBM i (AS/400) system. In addition, regular data backups and detailed transmission logs ensure maximum transparency, traceability, and audit security.
Clear Benefits for Schluter-Systems and Their Partners
The introduction of the automated, encrypted payment process offers several tangible benefits for Schluter-Systems: The elimination of check printing and mailing costs not only reduces operational expenses but also eliminates bank reconciliation fees. At the same time, delays due to postal strikes are a thing of the past – the entire process is secure, reliable, and fully automated.
The company’s partners also benefit directly: The risk of check loss or theft is eliminated, and long waits at the bank counter are no longer necessary. Instead, payments are received within a maximum of two hours – fast, secure, and directly into the recipient’s account.
Voices from the Project: Customer Satisfaction at the Core
Richard Jagodnik, V.P. Finance, Schluter-Systems (Canada) Inc., also shares a positive summary of the collaboration:
“We recently worked with Portolan to change the accounting software, with the specific goal of transitioning from cheque payments to electronic funds transfer (EFT). The entire experience was smooth, efficient, and highly professional.
From the outset, Markus Köster Principal Consultant at Portolan took the time to understand our existing processes and the limitations of our old system. He provided clear recommendations tailored to our needs and walked us through each step of the software configuration.
Thanks for making this change happen without any “hiccups”!”
The project shows: With the right expertise and a spirit of partnership, digital transformation can be implemented successfully and sustainably.
